A Legacy of Quality and Expansion in the Middle East
Founded in 1924 by Arthur Spinneys in Alexandria, Egypt, the company's mission was to create a welcoming shopping environment that offered customers access to top-notch products at fair prices. In 1948, Spinneys made its way to Lebanon and opened its first store in the bustling Beirut Souks, rapidly expanding its footprint with stores in Raouche, Verdun, Hamra, and Jnah.
Resilience and Expansion in Post-War Lebanon
Despite the challenges of the Lebanese civil war, which resulted in the suspension of operations in 1976, Spinneys demonstrated remarkable resilience, reopening its doors after twenty-two years and introducing hypermarkets to Lebanon in 1998 through its flagship store in Dbayeh. This successful venture prompted the company to open additional stores across Lebanon, cementing its status as a leading retail player in the country.
